Dental Sealants We may recommend sealants to prevent cavities in your teeth. A dental sealant is a plastic coating that is painted on the chewing surface of the tooth to seal tiny grooves and help prevent decay-causing bacteria from penetrating the enamel. The plastic sealant material is hardened using a special light, and requires no drilling or anesthetic. For years, sealants have been the cornerstone of a preventive plan for protecting children's' teeth. Today adults are also benefiting from sealants on healthy teeth surfaces to improve resistance to destructive bacteria. Sealants can last for many years if properly cared for. We will check your sealants at your regular checkup appointments, and can re-apply the sealant material if necessary.
